Balanced Nutrition + Flexibility

Life should be about balance in every way! Enjoy all foods and eat foods that make you feel good. Instead of engaging with the diet culture mentality of restriction, focus on the abundance of nourishing foods that will fuel your body and build your meals around these. A balanced plate contains complex carbohydrates, quality protein, fats and fibre - with plenty of plant foods in mix! Think about eating the rainbow each day, with an emphasis on wholefoods.

Then on occasions, enjoy any foods you like, knowing that nothing is off limits and all foods have a purpose, even if they aren’t “perfect.” In fact, perfection doesn’t exist and striving for it only puts a great amount of stress on our minds and bodies. One of the best parts of a healthy life should be indulgence from time to time with zero guilt! Enjoy the pasta at that wonderful Italian restaurant. Savour your grandma’s cheesecake. Eat mindfully and know that at your next meal you can simply return to your more regular foods. Joy is a nutrient too!

Exercise with Kindness

Exercise smarter, not harder. I believe in exercising for energy and self care - never to the point of exhaustion. I want you to move your body daily – but in ways that you love. This is what I call ‘exercising with kindness,’ and it'll not only help you to build your relationship with your body, but it’s sustainable. There’s no need to overdo it and push yourself to the limit.

Exercise for 30-45 minutes a day (or whatever balance you find works best for your unique body!), and enjoy 1-2 rest days per week – without feeling guilty. A rested body is a healthy body.

Again, it’s all about balance. Support yourself with a routine includes both yin and yang workouts – i.e. a mix of high-intensity and strength sessions, along with gentle exercises like yoga or walking. This is brilliant for the hormonal and nervous systems, and ensures you feel like you’re also getting your heart rate up and blood pumping at times too.

Practise Body Love

Your relationship with yourself is the most important one you’ll ever have. Learning to be kind to myself and truly practise loving my body was key in me finding a healthy and balanced life. Yet from personal experience, it’s not easy to overcome years of negative self-talk or the pressures we may feel from external sources (such as magazines and social media) to look a certain way. It’s time to love every part of you as you are, unconditionally, right now. Try the following:

  • Ditch the scales - I threw out the scale over a decade ago and I am certain divorcing my body from the number watching really freed me and helped heal my relationship with my body. This also allows space for you to rebuild body love, without comparison and negative self talk.
  • Positive affirmations - The way we speak to ourselves matters. Use positive affirmations daily, such as “I am healthy, happy, confident and beautiful exactly as I am. My body is a miracle that I treat with kindness, love and respect for all it does for me.”

Make it Simple + Easy

Many people feel that they don't have the time to live a healthy life. I get it! Over the last decade, I've been building a business, managing a team and juggling multiple projects - and I've often found myself short on time. That's why I've made my Sunday fridge and pantry prep a real ritual in my week because it saves me so much time, and makes having quick access to healthy food and meals easy even when my schedule is jam-packed.

I also find it enjoyable to do this, knowing I am setting myself up to live my best healthy life for the week ahead - it is an act of self-care.

Our JSHealth meals are also designed to be quick and easy to make - you don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen to create a delicious and nourishing meal. Check out 650+ in the JSHealth App, which is yours free with any JSHealth Vitamins order!

Rest is Key

Stress is the root cause of a lot of issues, especially poor gut health. Spend 10-20 minutes every day in a ‘stress-free’ zone – this could be something like reading a book, having a bath or going for a walk. Set boundaries with social media and technology. I switch off my phone and computer by 8pm! I also always follow a soothing nighttime routine.
